CPP & OAS Planning Basics

CPP and OAS are two important sources of retirement income for many Albertans.

CPP Basics

CPP is based on your contributions during your working years. You can usually start CPP as early as 60, at 65, or delay it as late as 70.

Starting early usually lowers your monthly payment. Delaying CPP usually increases your monthly payment.

OAS Basics

OAS is generally available starting at age 65 if you meet Canadian residency requirements. Higher-income retirees may have some or all of OAS recovered through the OAS recovery tax.

Important note

Rules and benefit amounts can change. Always verify numbers with Government of Canada sources or speak with a qualified financial professional.
